We build and repair homes almost
exclusively with volunteer labor.
Whether you’re a skilled craftsperson or you’ve never picked up a hammer, building with Habitat is a life-changing experience both for you and our homeowners. Sponsor a project, bring a group, or come on your own. We can’t do it without you.
Our build days are typically Tuesdays and Saturdays although special arrangements can be made for groups in advance. Please call our volunteer coordinator at (828) 268-9545 to sign up.
Before coming out to help, please watch our Job Site Safety Video. This video helps educate you about basic construction safety before you arrive on your scheduled build day. The video covers the most common safety concerns found on our Habitat building sites. We want you to have a safe and productive experience with Watauga Habitat.
Directions to our current projects:
Shook House: From the Wendy’s (Blowing Rock Road/Hwy 105 S intersection) in Boone, take 105 S towards Banner Elk and follow 11 miles to left on Grandfather Road (directly across the street from Smoketree Lodge). Follow to new construction on left.
If you are coming from Banner Elk: from Tynecastle take 105 N 1.7 miles to right on Grandfather Road (directly across the street from Smoketree Lodge). Follow to new construction on left.
GreenWood: Turn left onto HWY 194 from US HWY 421 South at the Hardees red light at New Market Center. Travel approximately 5.5 miles to right on Big Hill Road. After approximately 150 yards, turn into Green Valley Elementary School. Take an immediate left onto GreenWood Valley Drive. Follow the road as it curves up the hill and you will see the work site!
If swinging a hammer is not part of your skill set, there are a wide variety of ways to support Habitat. We will strive to put your particular skills to use to accomplish our mission.
